Who they are
Now and then the Signal Keep sends a patrol across the land: Signal guards with a Sentry sphere scouting ahead. A patrol may also come to a settlement that looks rich. Deeper in the keep a Castellan guards the vault.
How they find you
Signal guards sweep their visors, and you hear the scan coming. They see only what their visors have a clear line to, so walls and cover hide you.
Fighting them
A guard shoulder-charges, so step aside as it comes. A Sentry sphere keeps its distance and warns before it fires a scatter of bolts, so sidestep that too.
CarefulRobots strike up at anyone standing on their heads.
The Castellan
The Castellan guards the vault deep in the Signal Keep: a black-and-gold war machine twice your height, with a glaive and a tower shield. It never leaves its vault.
It sweeps the glaive across its front, and its cleave comes down hard and sticks in the floor for a moment. From further off it plants itself, its blade glows amber, and it charges in a straight line, so sidestep while it glows. Shoot at it and the shield comes up, so go round its side. Badly hurt, its visor turns amber and it fights faster.
What they leave
- Signal guard: iron scrap always, weapon parts sometimes, and now and then a little copper scrap or iron ore.
- Sentry sphere: iron scrap and its lens of glass always, weapon parts sometimes.
- Castellan: a great heap of iron scrap and a handful of weapon parts.
