Weapons and combat

Plasma weapons

A blade that comes back to your hand, and guns that run on cells.

A plasma blade cuts through a group of Hollows, with a damage number on every hit.

Plasma blade

A hilt with a metre of white-hot blade, in a colour that is fixed when it is made. The trigger extends and retracts the blade, and with the blade in the hilt only knocks. It lights up by day and in the dark, and a thrown or pulled blade slices what it passes. While it is being made, the hilt shows how far the crafting has come.

Call it back

Let go of the blade or throw it, then look at it, point an empty hand and close it. The blade flies back spinning to your hand, faster the harder you draw. Flick your wrist as it comes to curve its flight around what stands in the way.

A dropped plasma blade is called back and flies into the open hand.

Plasma pistol

The sidearm fires plasma balls from cells. Reloading is three moves: let the used cell drop out with the upper face button on the gun hand, bring a fresh cell up under the grip, and rack the slide with the other hand. An empty cell is spent for good, while a part-used one can be picked up and loaded again.

Plasma rifle

The rifle is two-handed. Close your other hand on its forward grip to steady it, and hold the trigger for a stream of balls. It heats as it fires, glows hotter, and locks up to vent if you hold on too long, so fire in bursts. Its cell loads like the pistol's, and you finish with its charging handle.

CarefulSidearm and rifle cells are not interchangeable.

Cells and the charger

The Gun table makes cells from the cores that Hollows leave behind, and a Veteran's core is what the rifle's cells need. Finished cells fill up in the table's charger, which holds a batch and makes no more while it is full. Take them out and it makes more.
