Gather and make

Felling trees

Cut right through a trunk and the top comes down. Stand clear, then chop the log into wood.

Keep hitting the trunk until it gives way and the top comes down.

Chop through the trunk

Swing the axe with a real swing and keep cutting the same spot. When a cut leaves the top with nothing holding it, it falls. It shoves you but does not hurt you.

Chop through a pine: the top falls, leaves scatter, and the trunk is left lying to be chopped.

Cut up the log

The fallen trunk can be chopped further. Walk close to collect the wood. Clearing leaves now and then gives saplings to plant.

With a stone axe, chop the fallen trunk into logs and chips.

Better axes

Copper and iron axes take bigger bites and are made at the Forge. Axes wear out, see Tool wear.

An axe bites through a pine trunk, the tree topples, and the axe goes on to chop the fallen log.
