Crafting at benches

Every bench works the same way: lay materials on it, page to a design and work at it until it is made.

Each machine is its own bench. The pack makes the basics, the Workbench makes the other benches, and everything else is made at the bench that suits it.

A bench shows the next design as a hologram with its name above, and arrows to page through the others.

Pick a design

A bench shows the next thing it can make as a hologram, with the design's name floating above it. Page through the designs with the arrows at either side. The hologram is coloured when you have what it needs and blue while something is short.

Make it

  1. Lay the materials on the bench.
  2. Strike it with a fist or a hammer. The materials fly onto the bench and the item takes shape.
  3. Pick the finished item up.

TipBenches have no hammer of their own. The Sawmill table is cut with its saw arm instead.

Add-ons

Most benches can be upgraded. A bench makes the kit for its own add-on, and you set it on by hand. Each add-on opens the next designs, and they come one at a time, in order.

The bench keeps room for its add-ons, and shows the room in blue when you place it, so leave some space around it. The room is advice, not a rule: you can build in it, but clear it before you set the add-on.

The honing post kit shows as a hologram over the sword bench before you make it.

Taking it back

If you change your mind, take everything you laid on a bench back in one go.

Placing benches

Benches snap to a grid so they line up. Press B (or Y on the left hand) while placing to set one down freely. Shake the placement preview to cancel. See Placing kits.
